This year has been a colourful and vibrant Autumn

Autumn/Fall is one of my favourite seasons. The reason being is the colours and warmth of the season. I like the richness of the trees which take on a new look. This year however, our Autumn is more colourful than usual. More reds, oranges and pinks as opposed to a majority yellow hue.

This is the view of the valley from the village of Riverie.

Mushrooms and one Chestnut

Col de Grenouze is a great place to find edible food such as mushrooms, chestnuts and blueberries (in the summer). I enjoy coming here as it is very peaceful except for the many birds chirping or squawking. I find I enjoy the country as oppose to the city. City life is too chaotic for my tastes. Don’t get me wrong I like going to the city on a rare occasion but it’s not for me. I have lived and visited many cities, ie: San Diego, Los Angeles, New York City, Boston, New London, St Petersburg, San Francisco, Cork City, Dublin, Berlin, Warsaw, Krakow, Paris and Lyon (I’m sure I’m forgetting some cities). I have had many experiences being in cities but prefer country life. I also love nature and what it has to offer.

I notice while I uploading these photos I have quite a few Amillaria mellea. This is the first time I have ever seen this mushroom and I just find them beautiful.

Dew on spider webs, mushrooms and colourful leaves.

St Catherine is a small village a few minutes from where we live. They have a bakery, bar, small grocer, place to eat and many more places and offices. The place we visited is a forest outside of this village. It was an early morning and there was a lot of fog which left "dew" on many plants including spider webs. It was a nice and tranquil morning.

Wild Pheasants in the Fields

You know Autumn is near when you start to see certain birds such as pheasants. We usually see pheasants early in the morning when they are feeding. Unfortunately for them hunting season just started. Hunting season in France officially starts on the 2nd Sunday of September. Hunters hunt rabbit, pheasant, wild pig, deer, etc.

Observing these beautiful birds is special. When we see a group we stop the car and observe and if I have a camera I take pictures. However, recently we passed a pheasant sitting on an old wooden fence and he was huge and very beautiful. Unfortunately it was too late.... to take a photo that is.
